Jekyll Island Florida

Well we had to take an alternate route from Cumberland island yesterday because of the St Andrew Sound was SOOOO rough. This alternate route was an adventure itself. The shoaling was unreal and depth was nothing like on the chart or gps. Luckily our depth sounder worked. We bumped bottom a couple of times, but the tide was coming in so we were not too worried. This was a route that the army corps dug years ago, but they don't maintain the dredging. It was a nail biting experience, but we made it to Jekyll Island and tied up at a really lovely and charming marina. This marina so far on our travels has the most charm I have seen. The people are very friendly here and I feel like I am back on the gulf coast of Florida again. We walked into the Historic district last night and had dinner at the rah bar on the pier. Pictures are of the Millionaires mansion and the marina here.

My wife and I used to sail in the waters around Jekyll and St. Simons Island. St Andrew Sound can be a challenge.
There are some nice folks at The Golden Isle Marina on St Simons. Further north in the ICW there is a place called Kilkenny Creek Marina that isn't bad either.
